Media relations plays a leading role in many of the communications programmes which we run for clients. It is particularly important for new or smaller brands which might otherwise be outgunned by larger and better established names. Meridian’s expertise in this field enables us to find innovative ways for clients to maintain a consistently high profile in all media which affect their business.
Research
Research which we undertake for clients generally falls into one of four areas:

- Desk Research
Meridian has a strong reputation in researching issues as diverse as deep vein thrombosis and automotive design, which are then used within a client’s media relations programme.
- Internal Research
Meridian runs specially-tailored internal research studies among employees, enabling the client to identify and take action on issues affecting employee morale and motivation.
- Client Research
In the business-to-business sector, Meridian has considerable experience of running research programmes among the principal business contacts of its clients, as part of a broader programme of work designed to improve customer service and communications.
- Outsourced Research
Whilst the three above areas of research are handled by Meridian’s own consultants, consumer research on specific issues – often for use within a media relations programme – is outsourced to specialist research companies.

Corporate Positioning
Drawing on research from every aspect of their business, Meridian helps clients to formulate a specific positioning for their organisation which, among other things, helps to distinguish it from competitors.
Corporate Identity
Corporate identity reviews will often play a key role in our work when we are shaping perceptions of an organisation. This goes much further than logos and design – it encompasses every aspect of internal and external communications.
Crisis Management
Preparing and implementing strategies for crises which may affect the reputation and operations of an organisation. The crisis planning work which we undertake for clients can relate to anything from minor issues through to major threats which threaten the continuation of the business. Crisis management work has primarily involved issues surrounding financial irregularities and major industrial accidents.
Issues Tracking
Identifying and tracking issues which have a bearing on the business of the client and the industry in which it operates. Opinions on issues are also developed for use within the media relations programme.
Training
Broadcast and media training for client spokespeople, as well as general communications training for employees.
